Recommended Read: Truly, Madly Yours by Rachel Gibson

One of my favourite things to do is read and I had the idea to do posts about books I love, what I have currently read or what I think is or isn't worth the hype.
In 2008 a friend and I watched the Jane Austen Book Club (amazing film!) and it made us want to start our own book club. Although that idea didn't completely set sail...whilst looking for a book to begin with we stumbled onto author Rachel Gibson. We were both so drawn by the story Truly, Madly Yours that we decided it'll be the first one to be discussed.
Since then I have read nearly every book she's published and loved them all, but Truly, Madly Yours will always be "that book" I'll re-read.

Published in 1999, the blurb says:

Where there's a will...
When pretty hairdresser Delaney Shaw returned home to Truly, Idaho for the reading of her step-father's will, she planned on paying her respects and getting out of town. But it seems the will has some unexpected stipulation - like the one that says if Delaney want's her inheritance she needs to stay put and have nothing to do with sexy Nick Allegrezza...for an entire year!
...There's no way
Ten years ago, Nick had swept Delaney off her feet and onto his Harley and that's when she really let down her hair! Back then, he was a love-'em and leave-'em man and Delaney learned the hard way that she was just a fling. But Nick is as irresistible as ever. And when the ladies at Tuesday night Bingo see Nick and Delaney making after-hours whoopee through the window of a local beauty parlour, Delaney knows it's time to decide if Nick is Truly, Madly the man of her heart.

My Summary & Thoughts

Truly, Idaho is a town where everyone knew everyone else's business. Nick Allegrezza was the illegitimate son of Henry Shaw; the town's mayor...but Henry never acknowledges Nick and instead parades to the town how proud he was of his step-daughter; Delaney Shaw.
Nick wanted to hate Delaney but he just couldn't so one minute he'd wind her up a little bit then the next he'd flatten the tires on her bike so he could walk her home. As the years go by the tension between them grows and at 18 Delaney gets caught in a steamy situation with Nick by Henry! After that night, scandal broke but Delaney had already taken off vowing to never look back.

10 years later at her step-fathers will reading, Delaney comes face to face with Nick and that tension starts to grow again, but there was one major problem. For Delaney to get the $3 million inheritance and Nick to inherit a lot of valuable property Delaney must spend a year in Truly without sleeping with Nick! If either of them break any of the stipulations written then they forfeit their part of the inheritance. Delaney stays, she doesn't want anything to do with Nick anyway so it'll be easy, but Nick has other ideas.
He finds new ways to wind her up, moments where he can be as sweet as anything and others where it starts to get heated. The book is mainly from Delaney's point of view, but those moments where it's from Nick's you can really see how hot their chemistry is.

The story line reflects a modern day romance in a town of traditions; where you marry your childhood sweetheart and your family goes back generations. You feel everything; the humour, the tension and the emotion. Nick is one of those "bad boy-jerk's" that you fall absolutely in love with and Delaney just can't keep saying no to him.
I re-read this book over and over and without giving anything away it has the perfect ending, it's not too soppy, a little predictable but it's in their way. As two strong lead characters you could definitely write another story about them which is something I really like about it.

So that's my first shot at trying to recommend something to you lovely lot! I will say that I mainly go towards the romance side of fiction but then again will read anything so would love to know what your suggestions are.

Thanks for reading!
